Sketches, December 2020

Apologies for the lengthy absence! I have been busy revising a novel (to be finished by the end of the summer), among other things, and this website has unfortunately fallen by the wayside. I hope to add more old writings soon.

In the meantime, I wanted to share some sketches I made back in December. As an early Christmas gift to myself, I invested in a fountain pen and new sketchbook. I was looking for something portable and easy to fit into a purse for travel, so I could sketch at any time. I also wanted a pen more similar to the dip pens I prefer for finished ink work. Eventually, I’d like to invest in something with a refillable cartridge and water-resistant ink for watercolors. I haven’t spent much time drawing recently, but staying at home through the holidays during the pandemic gave me plenty of time to play with my new toys.

All sketches here were created with a Pilot Kakuno pen on Stillman & Bern Epsilon Series 3″x5″ paper (similar to my tried and true Bristol board but thinner and with an off-white color, well worth the investment). Images have been tone-corrected in Photoshop.
